Take Me For A Ride

This was written about an encounter I had shortly before my college graduation. I was mostly over "the girl", but still sore from heartsickness. A different girl approached me and expressed admiration - she'd apparently been watching me from afar. I didn't want to get my hopes up - after all, it was in a bar and she was pretty drunk when she "worked up the courage" to approach me. But I told myself, chances are this is going to go nowhere, but as long as you recognize that, what's the harm in letting yourself get excited? So I did. We met once for coffee, it was pretty awkward, and we never talked to each other again. But I took it all in stride. Which is pretty good, considering.
